Free event to help first-time buyers explore their home ownership options
First-time buyers in the borough are being invited to a free event to help them find out more about the different routes into home ownership and the support available locally.
Buying a first home can feel confusing, expensive or out of reach for many. To help residents looking to take the first step towards home ownership, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is hosting a low cost home ownership event between 3pm and 7pm on Thursday 25 June at the Civic Offices in London Road.
The free drop-in event, back by popular demand, will give first-time buyers the chance to understand the options available to them, get advice from mortgage experts, solicitors and the council’s housing team and understand the options available locally.
This will include more information on the council’s Own Home Loan scheme, First Homes, shared ownership and the borough’s low cost home ownership register.
Housing associations will also be on hand with more information on available properties.
Cabinet Member for Residents’ Services and Housing Cllr Laura James said: “We know that buying a home can feel out of reach or difficult to even begin thinking about for so many first-time buyers. There are lots of options available and this event is a really good place for anyone looking to buy their first home to start finding out more.
“Whether people are thinking about buying, are starting to save or simply want to understand home ownership options, our team will be on hand to help residents feel supported so they can consider home ownership alongside the other choices available to them.”
Residents can get regular updates on low cost home ownership opportunities that are available by signing up to the council’s register at basingstoke.HomeConnections.org.uk and at www.basingstoke.gov.uk/low-cost-home-ownership
