Beggarwood Park
Local Nature Reserve

Beggarwood Woodland Park is a 24 hectare site, designated as a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) and a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC). It holds Green Flag status and has many fantastic recreational facilities.

Facilities in the park

The park has a variety of activities catering to all age groups. These include a toddler and junior play area, outdoor gym equipment, a timber wild zone, a pump track, amphitheatre, picnic benches and a good footpath network.

Beggarwood Community Centre situated on the edge of the park is home to Café in the Park offering refreshments and a space for community groups to meet.

Conservation in the park

The site is a mixture of open grassland and woodland copses. Due to its wildflower meadows, including species such as small scabious, vipers bugloss, knapweed and birds foot trefoil, the invertebrate population is thriving. It is home to a variety of butterfly species, including the Small Blue, Dingy Skipper and Holly Blue. White throats and linnets are amongst the birds found here.

The site is managed in partnership with the Beggarwood Wildlife Group who usually meet at 9am on the first Tuesday of the month, at the Café in the Park. Their activities include scrub bashing, coppicing, seed collection and dispersal, and dead hedge creation. Situated to the southwest of Basingstoke, the park serves the communities of Hatch Warren and Beggarwood. It is accessible by foot from Beggarwood Lane, Woodbury Road and a path leading from Wallop Drive, Hatch Warren.

Limited free parking is available at the Café in the Park. Further parking is available by the Co-operative food shop, Beggarwood but charges do apply after one hour.
