Once part of a private estate, the Lime Pits now provide an opportunity for walking, playing and picnicking. The play area includes a 30-metre zip wire, a tractor multi-play unit and a challenging agility trail. The site forms part of the Basingstoke Canal Heritage Footpath Trail, running across Basingstoke common and finishing at Basing House. It follows a route rich in wildlife and cultural heritage

Car parking: The Lime Pits has two free of charge car parks. The gate at both car parks will be closed from 8pm to 6am from April to 31 October and from 6pm to 6am from 1 November to 31 March. This woodland park is a Local Nature Reserve and a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation. It holds Green Flag status and has many facilities including a toddler and junior play area, outdoor gym equipment, a timber wild zone, a pump track, picnic benches and a good footpath network. The park is home to Café in the Park.

The ponds provide a haven for wildlife, particularly Waterfowl including Tufted ducks, Coots and Kingfishers. The site offers picnic facilities and links via an underpass to Crabtree Open Space and Black Dam Ponds Nature Reserve.

This Local Nature Reserve was originally part of the Hackwood Estate, the historical significance of this site can still be seen in the Bolton Arch, the main entrance to Crabtree. The woodland is a mixture of oak, horse chestnut, sycamore and ash, with many informal footpaths. The grassland is managed for flowering plants.

An important site for butterflies due to its south facing position, woodland and grassland habitat. The elms are particularly important as a resting and breeding place for the beautiful and rare White Letter Hairstreak.

Situated next to Basing Wood, which is managed by the Forestry Commission. This site has open space for informal play and a multi games area (MUGA) for ball games such as basketball and tennis. Nature trails and walks lead through the woodland to Sherborne St John. The site is home to Marnell Bowling Club and Popley Fields Community centre.

The park has an open grass area, a splash pad (open from April to September), outdoor gym and play park. The play park includes a climbing and sheltering hut, toddler multi-play unit, group swings, a tree detective play panel and a wheelchair accessible roundabout.

The splash pad will close on the 30 September 2026 for autumn and winter. On Wednesdays the splash pad will not open until midday to allow for maintenance and water monitoring. If temporary closures are required for deep cleaning or additional water treatment, we will provide updates on our play areas webpage and on our social media channels.

The grounds of Glebe Gardens originally formed the lawns and meadows of the rectory of St Michaels Church. The gardens have many old trees and in the spring snowdrops, crocuses and daffodils grow amongst the grass around the trees. The River Loddon winds through the willow trees. Seating is available in the park.

Paths cross through the site and connect to a wider footpath network, making it ideal for walking. A large ancient woodland with heath and wood pasture, rich in butterflies, bees and birds. There are many tracks and paths for walking and cycling. Be aware there may be cattle grazing in some of the woodland pastures. Dogs are welcome but only on a lead.

The Forest is managed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust (HIWWT) and they have produced a guide to Pamber Forest and a self-guided trail to follow.
