You can reduce the amount of garden waste by composting it yourself. Compost bins can be bought online or at home DIY stores or you can make a compost heap.
Can be composted at home in your garden, or recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Alternatively we can collect your garden waste and compost it for you through the garden waste collection service.
Some manufacturers may be able to take gas bottles back for reuse or refilling. Please contact the manufacturer directly.
The Household Waste Recycling Centre accepts gas bottles up to 15kg in size, either propane or butane, excluding Calor branded gas bottles.
Calor offer a returns process to reuse and recycle their bottles. Find your nearest return point.
SCUBA diving bottles or air cylinders are only accepted if no alternative disposal route can be used. Alternatively, you may need to contact a private disposal company.
You can reuse glass bottles and jars when buying food and other household products in refill shops.
Jars can also be reused for keeping things tidy in the house, including nails, screws and stationary.
All glass bottles and jars, including perfume and aftershave bottles, go in your separate glass box or bin. Metal lids can be left on but please remove other lids and place these in your black/grey waste bin.
If the glass bottle and/or jar is broken place this in your black/grey waste bin, carefully wrapped, to protect our collection crews.
You can also recycle glass bottles and jars at one of our recycling points, or at the Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Sell, or donate locally using Freegle and other online platforms.
You can take your hardcore to the Household Waste Recycling Centre.
Rubble will be accepted as a part of your household's DIY waste allowance. If your household allowance has been exceeded, you will be charged to dispose of rubble.
Rubble includes construction and demolition materials such as stone, rubble, clay, concrete, bricks, blocks, sand, tiles, paving slabs, and ceramic bathroom suites. There will be no charge for crockery or clay/terracotta flower pots.
Visitors wishing to dispose of rubble based products mixed with other waste types (e.g. tiles with plasterboard attached) must separate them prior to visiting the Household Waste Recycling Centre so they can be disposed of separately. The removal of tiles from plasterboard may be made easier if soaked in water.
This includes hazardous items such as white spirit, anti-freeze, oven cleaners, weed killers, insecticides, lubricants, and drain cleaners. Usually identified by a black and orange hazardous symbol on the packaging/bottle.
The Household Waste Recycling Centre accepts hazardous household waste and chemicals. Please ensure they are in sealed leak-proof containers.
Please speak to site staff who will ensure it is disposed of correctly.
Note: a maximum of five litres can be deposited per month per household.

Please do not dispose of clinical waste in your black/grey waste bin.
Hearing aids that have been issued by the NHS belong to the NHS and they should be returned if they are no longer needed. The NHS refurbishes the hearing aids and re-issues them. This includes non-digital aids that are still needed for some patients. If they are no longer needed then the NHS send them to charities.
Age UK accepts working, non-digital hearing aids, which are cleaned and tested before sending to India. They can be sent to Hearing Aid Appeal, Help the Aged, FREEPOST LON13616, London, EC1B 1PS.
If your hearing aid no longer works, the battery can still be recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Wade Road in Basingstoke.
All used inhalers should be returned to a pharmacy to be disposed of safely.
Inhalers should not be put in waste bins. Landfill disposal is harmful to the environment both in material waste and in greenhouse gas emissions as the residual gas from canisters is released to the atmosphere.

Most printer cartridges can be returned to their manufacturer for recycling. These take-back schemes vary from company to company, so please contact them directly for more information.
Printer cartridges can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre for recycling but should not be placed in your green recycling bin.
If take-back schemes are not available to you, printer cartridges should be placed in your black/grey waste bin.
Sell or donate locally to a charity shop, or online using Freegle.
Small electrical items (up to a maximum size of 58cm wide x 21cm deep) can be taken to a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) drop off point.
Ironing boards can be recycled at the Household Waste Recycling Centre if they are made of metal or wood. Some old ironing boards have an asbestos 'rest' and cannot be recycled. They can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre, but must be wrapped in at least two layers of plastic.
Look for similar products in packaging that you can recycle from home, such as juice in plastic bottles.
Plant based milk/drinks are now available in powder form and can be made at home, avoiding the use of cartons.
Cartons and Tetra Pak (such as alternative milks, juice and soup cartons) can be recycled in the new temporary recycling banks at our six council-owned recycling sites. The materials should be clean/empty before they are deposited in the containers to mitigate against odours and pests (for example flies, wasps, ants).Find your nearest recycling site.
Hampshire County Council are building a new recycling sorting facility which means from Spring 2028 we will be able to collect these from the kerbside.
Register with the Mailing Preference Service (MPS) to reduce the amount of junk mail you receive.
You can recycle junk mail, such as flyers, leaflets and marketing material in your green recycling bin.
