Basingstoke and Deane only carry out works on council owned land, if the tree is not owned by the council and you can’t find the owner, we recommend a Land Registry search.
If the tree is overhanging your garden/property, you have the legal right to prune it back to the boundary line, but we advise you to use a suitably qualified/insured tree surgeon. However, you should contact us by emailing trees@basingstoke.gov.uk to check if the tree has a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or if you are in a Conservation Area, as in these cases, an application may will be required. For further information visit the Protected tree webpage.
For council owned tree work requests, please submit an enquiry below.
We initially advise submitting an enquiry to save the need for filling out/printing a Tree Work Application Form. A Tree officer will then visit within 28 days and potentially order works, advise against works if deemed inappropriate or provide a Tree Work Application Form, if necessary.
View the status of current tree work applications via the planning application portal.
