Why I volunteer

‘Why I volunteer’ is a social media campaign we are running that aims to put a spotlight on local volunteers and celebrate the real difference they make in the borough.

It uses short videos to tell real people's stories about why they volunteer, what they do and how their experiences have changed their lives. That includes which aspects of volunteering that they enjoy, the role they do and how they have been able to fit their volunteering around their other commitments. The aim is to celebrate local groups' and individuals' achievements and inspire others to get involved too.

How to get involved

If you are part of a voluntary organisation in the borough that is happy to get involved and to film its own videos for the campaign, please email our communications and marketing team.

You will then be emailed with more information about the campaign and guidelines for recording the video clips. That includes telling you how to send clips in, once they have been recorded.

Children can feature in the videos but their parent or guardian must sign one of our photography and video consent forms. A parent, guardian or responsible adult should preferably be in the video too.

The clips will be edited by our communications and marketing team into a 60-to-90-second video. That video will be sent to your voluntary organisation before it is finalised and published.
