Look for similar products in packaging that you can recycle from home. For example, juice in plastic bottles and tomatoes/passata in tins or glass jars.
Plant based milk/drink are now available in powder form and can be made at home, avoiding the use of cartons.

Tiles will be accepted as a part of your household's DIY waste allowance. If your household allowance has been exceeded, you will be charged to dispose of tiles.
Buy products in larger containers where practical to reduce packaging waste.
Clean and reuse tin cans for storage of stationery, tools, or craft supplies. Convert cans into plant pots, herb planters, or bird feeders.
Please ensure children are supervised when crafting with tins or cans as cut edges can be sharp.
You can recycle empty and clean cans and tins in your green recycling bin. Rinse cans before recycling to prevent contamination.
Sell or donate locally to a charity shop, or online using Freegle.
Before disposing of your old tools, consider repairing them! There are tutorials available online for simple repairs, but if you're in need of more help, why not visit your local Repair Café? If you no longer have a need for your tools, the Repair Cafe may accept them as a donation.
You could also consider renting tools from a Library of Things, rather than purchasing new.
Tools for Self Reliance is a UK based charity that collects and refurbishes tools. Working in partnership with organisations in Ghana, Malawi, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Zambia, Tools for Self Reliance provide both the training and the tools for rural tradespeople to earn a livelihood. To find out if your tools are suitable for donation, visit the TFSR website.
You cannot put tools in your household or communal recycling bins.
Small electrical items (up to a maximum size of 58cm wide x 21cm deep) can be taken to a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) drop off point.
Alternatively, take tools to the Household Waste Recycling Centre.

If it no longer works and needs to be recycled you could check if your electrical retailer will take your old appliance when they deliver your new one. Alternatively, these items can also be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre or collected via our bulky waste collection service (fees payable)
Old tyres are perfect for creative upcycling. Popular DIY projects include stacking and wrapping tyres with sisal rope to make ottomans and tables, building outdoor tyred herb gardens, creating garden ponds, turning them into hanging planters and crafting durable pet beds.
Always scrub the tyre thoroughly with hot water, soap, and a stiff brush before painting or wrapping to remove road grime and debris.
Tyres can no longer be disposed of in landfill sites, and will not be accepted at the Household Waste Recycling Centre. They should be taken to a local garage or tyre and exhaust centre where they will be disposed of safely (a small charge may apply).
When you purchase new tyres the garage may take the old ones. They could also be taken to a car breakers, but call first to check.
Choose products that have long lasting rechargeable batteries.
Choose reusable or refillable instead of disposable e-cigarettes/vapes.
These devices are intended to be reused, but charging cables and accessories can also be used in compatible devices.
E-cigarettes/vapes can be recycled by returning them to retailers.

E-cigarettes/vapes contain hidden batteries that can cause fires when put in rubbish, recycling or litter bins. Please remove the battery if possible and recycle separately in a battery recycling bin. Take the rest of the e-cigarette/vape to a Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) drop off point.
If you cannot remove the battery, take the whole e-cigarette/vape to a WEEE drop off point.

We cannot recycle VHS tapes, you should put them in your black/grey waste bin.
